Come and Meet the Leader of the Traditional Dancers - affectionately known to everyone as "Chief Toomalatai".
"Chief" as we call him, is from the Village of Puipaa/Matautu.
Chief Toomalatai has been in the Entertainment Industry for more than 25 years. He spent his early dancing career with the Magritas Bar/Night Club in Matautu back in the late '80s and early '90s. He later toured around Osaka, Japan and also to Taiwan, as part of an independent dance group contractual arrangement.
As a talented young artist coming back from Taiwan in 1999, he started his own Cultural Dance Group called "Toomalatai Dance Group" to tour and travel the globe entertaining on various venues and establishments in countries like Australia, New Zealand, USA and Hong Kong for more than 5 years.
Not only is he a talented cultural dancer, but also a well known fire knife dancer in Apia. He has coached, trained and mentored a number of World Champion Fire Knife Dancers like Hogan Toomalatai, Frank Solomona, Ieti Toomalatai (2013 Teuila Festival Fire Knife Dancer) to name a few.
Chief currently stays in Puipaa with his family taking care of his elderly mother -
